To-do list for those planning to graduate

  • Notify the Student Affairs Office of your intentions to graduate using the Notice of Willingness Form two (2) months before your graduation date at the latest.

  • Make sure all of your grades have been entered into the transcript database. If there are discrepancies contact the corresponding lecturer or head of degree programme. All of the required grades must be entered into the database before you can receive your diploma.

  • You must submit your completed thesis to your advisor three (3) weeks at the latest before you plan to graduate. You must also submit your abstract in English to the English lecturer at that time.

  • You must submit the abstracts to your thesis to the Student Affairs Office two (2) weeks before the date of your graduation at the latest. The abstracts in Finnish and in English should be on separate pieces of paper.

  • Agree upon a date, together with your advisor, of when you will take your Maturity Test before submitting your Diploma Application. An opportunity for all students to take their Maturity Test is arranged at least in connection with the December and May graduations. Your advisor will evaluate the content of your Maturity Test and the Communications lecturer will evaluate the linguistic form of the test.

  • The Student Union will provide you with information about binding your thesis. Reserve one (1) week for this.

  • After your thesis has been approved, save it to Theseus virtual library https://input.theseus.fi/cgi-bin/cc.cgi?lang=en. Theseus Instructions. If you don’t save your thesis to Theseus, take one loose-leaf copy of it to the library.

  • Submit one bound copy of your thesis to the archives. Give also one bound copy to your advisor. You can take both versions to the Student Affairs Office and they will forward them.

  • Submit your Degree Application to the Student Affairs Office two (2) weeks before your graduation date at the latest.

  • Answer the OPALA questionnaire online at http://opala.ncp.fi/. You will need your student ID number to do this. If you need additional information, contact the Student Affairs Office, or go to SeAMK’s recruiting services website at http://www.seamk.fi/rekry. Do not answer the OPALA questionnaire until after you have received your diploma, preferably during the same week.

  • When you submit your Diploma Application, please notify the Student Affairs Office whether or not you will participate in the graduation ceremony. If you intend to take part in it, notify the office of the number of relatives/friends that will be attending the ceremony. The ceremony begins with coffee and refreshments followed by the distribution of diplomas. Relatives and friends may bring flowers to the ceremony if they wish.
